Lunchbox
Aaron and Lunchbox
I had just broken up with my girlfriend and was going through a really bad depression. I happened to be at my Aunt's house when she told me my other Aunt's dog just had nine puppies. My aunt always has a lot of dogs so I got excited at the prospect of seeing nine puppies. She mentioned that my aunt was looking to give them away and I knew immediately that I was going to get one. Growing up I always wanted a dog, I was 21 years old, it was now my decision. When I drove down to Ithaca to pick my puppy up I knew which one he was from pictures my aunt had sent me. I made eye contact with him and he laid down on the grass. I walked over to him and picked him up and knew he was the one. From that day on Lunchbox has been the most important thing in my life. I get upset when I am away from him for long periods of time, but no matter how long I am away, he's always waiting at the door for me ready to pounce on me. Always wagging his tail, always ready to play, ready to curl up next to me. The greatest feeling in the world is coming home from a long night at work and opening the door to see him looking at me wagging his tail waiting for me to give him permission to hug me, knowing that I have a loyal and loving dog just makes any problem I may have seem unimportant. He turned my life around, he's has given me a new reason to wake up every morning to start a new day. For months I wallowed in self pity over a girl, but Lunchbox has healed that wound and has returned me to the normal happy teddy bear personality I once had. I've had Lunchbox for 10 months now and couldn't be happier, he's my best friend and has shown me that the saying "Man's best friend" is true. He's been very easy to train, he's gentle with my three year old cousin, he doesn't bite but he has come to my defense. I can't put into words what he has done for me. But I can say this. When I am with him, no matter where I am or what is going on in my life, I know things are going to be okay because at the end of the day I have Lunchbox. He has motivated me to work harder, to push myself to try new things. People said I couldn't have a dog while still in college, but I graduate in June and Lunchbox will be with me.
