Rambo

Gloria and Rambo

Rambo came into our lives when he was just eight weeks old. Like most Chihuahuas, he trained his owners well! Sometimes we think he believes he's a Rottweiler. Rambo is now twelve years old. When he was about ten, we were in bed with Rambo lying between my husband, Jim's, legs. When I bent over to give Jim a kiss goodnight, Rambo bit me in the face. That was not like him at all and I was quite angry with him, but I got over it. A few days later, the same happened, and this time, I was furious with Rambo. I hated to think that he may have turned on us (or at least me) and we would have to give him up. As I was feeling sorry for myself, it occurred to me that Rambo was probably protecting Jim! I told Jim I was making an appointment with the doctor for him. We found out through bloodwork that Jim had full-blown, advanced prostate cancer! Since he had absolutely no symptoms, he would not have had a check-up and he might not be with us today. We believe, without a doubt, that Rambo "smelled" Jim's cancer, and biting me was his way of warning us that Jim was in danger, thus, saving his life.
