Bleu
MaryLou and Bleu
I am the daughter of a 27 year military veteran. And, as most military families know, this involves a lot of moving. When my father finally retired, and our final move was to Walnut Creek, for some reason I started having terrible night terrors. The doctors told my parents that I would grow out of it! I was only 7 years old at the time. My Uncle John was visiting at the time, and he brought with him his field trained hunting dog Bleu. An immediate bound developed. Bleu followed my every movement, and when I went to bed that night Uncle John suggested that Bleu stay in the room with me. That was the first night in two months where I didn't have a nightmare. Uncle John was on his way to a possible job in Alaska, and asked my father if he could leave Bleu with us. Two weeks later, Uncle John called and asked how things were going. My father told him that Bleu and I were inseparable, and that I was able to sleep through most of the nights. And that Bleu would even lay at the foot of my bed when I grew restless and it seemed to calm me down. Uncle John informed my father that he had decided to accept the job in Alaska, and was calling to arrange shipping for Bleu. But then, in an act that I can only bless him for, he told my father : "Bleu is obviously needed there." Bleu the rider of wake was a field champion. She was a classy dog, sly, could smile and barked twice the whole time we owned her.But most of all, she was my best friend. 10 years later, she peacefully passed in her sleep. To this day, I compare all of my dogs to this wonderful animal. And tears still fall.
