Hamilton

Hamilton is my new service dog, as I am deaf. My last service dog was Ivanhoe- and he passed away 9 years ago. It's taken me a long time to find another dog that I bonded with that well....and Hamilton is doing such a great job so far- he has some HUGE shoes to fill. Ivanhoe saved two lives; mine and that of my eldest daughter, when our house caught fire years ago. He won the Red Cross Hero of the year, and was a subject in Peg Kehret's "Shelter Dogs" book. Hamilton will undoubtedly fill large shoes with his huge paws- but it's the security and peace of mind he is bringing me more than anything else as now I can sleep and work from home, without anxiety and fear about not hearing things that are important. It's difficult to be a mom and not hear things- and it's a level of comfort that I am sure many people take for granted that they hear things every day that I miss; doorbells, the teakettle on the stove, an oven timer, the phone ringing...as well as a host of emergency signals such as smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, etc. Hamilton makes every day of my life, more my life.
