Booker
Tim and Booker
Mine isn't a remarkable story - just a subtle one. But no less to the point - this dog DOES change my life in simple, yet profound ways. Booker, now a 7-year-old Boxer knows how to spread the love. I think of how Booker helps me exercise and maintain my health and weight. We do heavy-duty cardio walks in the hills. It allows me time to reflect, organize and plan. And I get to watch Booker in his element - that makes us both happy. I think of the incredible social aspects of having Booker with me. At my office where he chills all day, I keep the door open where he can see and be seen. People take one look at him and involuntarily sigh and kneel down to hug him. And then of course they begin talking to me. What a buddy! I could so never pull that off without him. Yes, he's a babe magnet and I love it! I have met a very diverse group of people this way. Occasionally some people I have come to know actually ask if they could "baby sit" him. Sadly, my wife and I are now divorced, and my daughter commutes to school and work. We all live under different roofs, but we manage to share Booker. He is a hero in each of their lives too, and the lives of their friends. Everyone asks about him when he is not there. And when he is, they want to hang out or ask to "borrow" him if it wouldn't be too much trouble. Of course it's easy to see what they all see. Booker is a greeter - the ultimate in cool. He embodies "chill." He is the calm in the storm - the soul recharger we all need. He makes it all look easy, yet he's got that sympathetic vibe that says "I understand; I am here for you." Yet he's got the innocence and playfulness of a child. He's just what the doctor ordered in these tough economic times too. When life isn't working, I can take one look at him and know it's going to be okay. He reminds me to relax and breathe and just BE. And that I can get through this.
